Dyker Heights Christmas Lights Tours

The Dyker Heights holiday lights story began in 1986. Over the years, the holiday decorating encompassed a considerable portion of the neighborhood. Residents would engage in a friendly competition to see who could out-decorate the others—spinning merry-go-rounds, revolving life-sized toy soldiers, and moving giant nutcrackers.

Beyond The Harlem Renassance

Originally a Native American Village and later a Dutch farming community from whence it derives its name, most of what we know about Harlem & its African American population comes from the B movies & glaring newspaper headlines of the last century. This tour explores the early African American pioneers of business, politics, entertainment, the arts, and literature.

Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Madame C.J. Walker, Langston Hughes & many more personalities illuminate this history. We discuss the new gentrification with both the positive and negative effects and the new residents, from Africans to transplants from Idaho.
